Privacy policy
No Context is a party game built from photos you choose to share with the people in your room. This page explains what the app collects, what happens to your photos, and what your choices are.
The short version: No Context is made in Europe, hosted in Europe, and deletes your photos when your game ends. There is no account and no sign-up. The only things we keep afterwards are the records needed to run free trials, honour purchases, and act on player reports — all described below, and none of them contain a photo.
What we collect
- Photos you share. Only the photos you approve for a game are uploaded, never your whole library. Photos are resized and compressed on your device before upload.
- Your player name. The name you type when hosting or joining a room. It doesn't have to be your real name.
- Room and game data. Room codes, votes, captions, and scores, used to run the game and keep standings in sync.
- A device identifier. An ID stored on your device — on Android, derived from the device's own Android ID. It deliberately survives reinstalling the app, so a Party Pass you bought keeps working and free trials cannot be reset by deleting and reinstalling. It is not your Apple or Google account, and not an advertising ID.
What we don't collect
- No account, no email, no phone number, because the game has no sign-up.
- No access to photos you didn't approve for a game.
How your photos are used
Shared photos are used for one thing: building rounds for the room you joined. They are visible only to players in that room while the game runs. If you'd rather not share at all, choose “I'll just play along” to skip uploading and still vote, guess, and win.
While a game is running, shared photos are held on our server — in memory or in a temporary file on the server's own disk — so rounds can be dealt out to players. They are deleted when the game ends, and are never included in backups.
Data retention
Photos, player names, votes, captions, and scores exist only while your room is open, and are deleted when the game ends. We keep no copy, no archive and no backup of your photos.
Three records do outlive the session, because the app cannot work without them:
- Free trials. Your device identifier and which modes it has played for free, so a free game stays one per mode.
- Purchases. Which devices have redeemed a Party Pass, so your purchase keeps working across reinstalls.
- Player reports. If someone reports a player, we keep the room code, the game mode, the reason, any note the reporter added, and the device identifiers of the two players involved — not their names. App stores require us to keep this record. It never contains a photo.
These three are what make the game work. Without them a free trial could be replayed forever, a Party Pass would stop working after a reinstall, and a reported player would be unreportable. We keep them for as long as the app is offered, we never use them for anything else, and none of them contains a photo. Questions about your data? Reach us via thesupport page.
Where your data lives
No Context is made in Europe, and the server that runs your game is in Europe. Connections reach it through Cloudflare's global network, so if you play from outside Europe your traffic is briefly processed at a Cloudflare location closer to you before it reaches us. Nothing is kept there, and the game itself always runs on our European server.
Your data belongs to you. We never sell it, share it, analyze it, or use it for anything beyond running the game you are playing.
Advertising
No Context contains no advertising and no ad networks. We do not collect or share advertising identifiers.
Analytics
No Context contains no analytics and no crash reporting. We do not track how you use the app.
Purchases
The Party Pass is an in-app purchase, available as a weekly or yearly subscription or as a one-time lifetime unlock. All purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play, and subscriptions are managed and cancelled through your store account. We never see your payment details.
